The Singapore Golf Association (SGA) has announced the launch of a new series of local professional golf events that will commence this month.
With Fintech Alliance Global (FTAG) coming on board as the presenting sponsor, the series – known as the Singapore Pro Series Invitational presented by FTAG – will consist of eight legs held across two venues. The first leg is set to kick off at the Sentosa Golf Club on 24 March and the tournament will conclude with a final leg in January 2022.
“The series will provide 18 Singapore top professionals and six local national amateurs who are aspiring to be tour professionals, the chance to play and compete during the ongoing global pandemic. As the governing body of golf in Singapore, we are extremely thrilled to spearhead this series of golf events as a milestone for the sport in the country,” said Jerome Ng, General Manager of the SGA.
“With the current drought in tournament golf across the region due to the pandemic, we are happy to be able to help create a sustainable flow of local golf tournaments for the future. At Fintech Alliance Global, we believe in bringing positive and transformational change across every aspect of our society and economy, and we are proud that the series will not only help the development of the game but provide a platform for Singapore golfers to best prepare for tour events and major games,” said Kelvin Chng, Chairman FTAG Group.
The series opener will be the first golf event to take place in Singapore since last year. 16 tournament days, or eight legs, have been scheduled for the inaugural season – where touring professionals, both male and female, and leading national amateurs will compete for over two days (36 holes) for a S$10,600 prize fund.
“We are extremely grateful to both Sentosa Golf Club and Tanah Merah Country Club for allowing access to their venues for the series. The opportunity to play on these superb golf courses will definitely help the players sharpen their skills,” added James Koh, Strategic Investor FTAG Group.
Each leg will also count towards the ‘Race to FTAG Cup’, where the winner of the Order of Merit will receive a bonus of S$10,000.
